They eat cellulose that is present in the wood and unprotected home is where they infest more as there are numerous sources of cellulose for them like window panes, doors, untreated tables, chairs and everything else that is made from wood. Termites also need moisture to survive and it is hard to find them. Sometimes we end up seeing them when there is some kind of repair work is going on or we see mud trail in the floor. Termites thrive better in soft wood as that is easier for them to process. According to experts, the following things can prevent termite infestation to a great extent. They are:
  • Mulch and excess plant cover should be kept away from the home.
  • Firewood and lumber should be stacked away from the home and the foundation.
  • Water should be diverted away from the foundation.
  • Pipe leaks should be repaired and entry points should be sealed.
  • There should be proper ventilation.
  • Air tight containers should be used.
